Injuries abound in MLB, but some of the best teams are thriving in spite of them while others are spiraling.
Accordingly, we have two new clubs on the ballot below and movement throughout. There also might be a pair of teams separating themselves at the top.
Without further ado, here's my newest top 10, with World Series odds via FanDuel Sportsbook.
10. Houston Astros (42-41, LW unranked)
World Series odds: +2200
They're back. The Astros are rewarding my refusal to write them off when they struggled so much at the beginning of this season. They've won nine of their past 10, including series wins over the Orioles and Mets. Not only are the Astros back above .500, but the ageless José Altuve has his batting average back above .300 on the season, and Yordan Álvarez and Jeremy Peña are raking as well. Just wait until Kyle Tucker, who still leads the team in wins above replacement this season, returns from his leg injury.
9. San Diego Padres (46-42, LW unranked)
World Series odds: +3600
The Dodgers might once again have a death grip on the National League West, but the Padres are holding serve in a suddenly competitive NL wild-card race, half a game above the St. Louis Cardinals for second of the three wild-card spots and the No. 5 overall seed in the playoff picture. Shout-out to the very relevant Jurickson Profar, who's been a revelation in his return to San Diego and has the highest on-base percentage among any MLB player not named Aaron Judge or Juan Soto entering Monday.
8. Atlanta Braves (46-36, LW 6)
World Series odds: +850
Atlanta slides a little bit after taking a big jump up my rankings last week. The Braves have been OK, going 5-5 over their past 10 games, and their continued presence in playoff contention is a testament to their depth, especially in the starting rotation as Chris Sale, Max Fried and Charlie Morton have continued to shove in the absence of Spencer Strider. A massive series against the NL East-leading Phillies awaits this weekend.
7. Minnesota Twins (47-37, LW 9)
World Series odds: +2200
The Twins continue to claw their way back up the standings and have now leapfrogged the Royals for second place in the AL Central. Minnesota has won each of its past three series, capped off by taking two out of three from the Mariners in Seattle. Any time your starters can go toe-to-toe with the Mariners' loaded rotation is a victory, and Pablo López and Joe Ryan did just that this weekend.
6. Milwaukee Brewers (50-34, LW 8)
World Series odds: +2900
The Brewers are in a bit of an inconsistent stretch, nearly getting swept by the Padres last weekend before turning around sweeping the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers and taking two out of three from the Cubs at home. A big reason for that recent hot streak? Five grand slams in eight games, a stretch capped off by Brice Turang's big mash in a 7-1 win over Chicago on Sunday.
5. New York Yankees (54-32, LW 2)
World Series odds: +470
Let's get the good news out of the way first: Juan Soto again avoided injury disaster this week when X-rays on his bruised right hand came back negative, and Aaron Judge is writing an incredible sequel to his 62-homer 2022 season. The bad? Carlos Rodón and Luis Gil again had terrible starts, the lineup is still extremely inconsistent behind Soto and Judge, there are weird vibes surrounding Gleyber Torres — specifically with his defense — and the Yankees were not only swept by the Mets in the Subway Series this week, but the Orioles have now passed them (by percentage points) in the AL East.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers (52-33, LW 5)
World Series odds: +320
Does Shohei Ohtani love hitting leadoff or what? Over the past two weeks, Ohtani has eight home runs, a 1.583 OPS, 17 RBIs and one near-death experience with a foul ball. The rest of the Dodgers remain a mixed bag. Gavin Stone threw a masterful shutout against the White Sox, but Bobby Miller still does not look right since coming off the injured list with a shoulder issue. Even would-be ace Tyler Glasnow struggled this week. And the back half of L.A.'s lineup remains a massive issue as we head into trade season.
3. Cleveland Guardians (52-30, LW 3)
World Series odds: +1700
The Guardians continue to make statements, and they made a big one this past week by taking two out of three from the Orioles in Baltimore. They would be ranked above the Orioles if they did not immediately lose three out of four against the Royals in Kansas City, but a three-game series at home against the White Sox should help right the ship. Steven Kwan's still MLB-best batting average is now "only" .370, but he remains one of the best stories in baseball this year.
2. Baltimore Orioles (53-31, LW 4)
World Series odds: +950
The Orioles finally righted the ship with a midweek four-game win streak, including taking the first three of their series against the Rangers and briefly sitting alone in first place of the American League East. We know this team flat-out rakes, but becoming the third squad to hit 60 home runs in a single month in MLB history, which Baltimore just did in June, is wildly impressive. And now we get Gunnar Henderson in the Home Run Derby, which is a huge win for baseball as a whole.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (55-29, LW 1)
World Series odds: +480
The biggest issue with the Phillies right now is health. Bryce Harper went down with a hamstring injury Thursday, joining Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto on the injured list. Ranger Suárez finally looked mortal against the Marlins on Sunday, but he's going to need a lot more of those outings to convince me that he, Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola aren't the best starting pitcher trio in all of baseball right now.
Out: Boston Red Sox (44-39, LW 10); Seattle Mariners (47-39, LW 7)
